Biography

American web server for a discussion group, AERIAL, which stands for the Astrologers' Ethics, Responsibility, Image and Accountability League, a site delivered through Yahoo Groups.

Although many of our current organizations do fine work, they are limited by their own structure from embracing the kind of activity for which AERIAL is intended. As a group of volunteers who pay no dues or membership fees, AERIAL is not constricted from acting publicly when the need arises.

The only requirement for membership is to abide by the principles AERIAL is founded on. We will seek no funds and work as volunteers only, donating our time, effort and materials to enhance professionalism in astrology.

AERIAL

Purpose: To foster true professionalism in the astrological community.

Description: An international, Internet-based association of concerned astrologers, which will endeavor to work as a watchdog organization to insure the advancement of the profession of astrology and protect its image.

Membership: Membership will at first be by invitation only. Members will have to sign on to enforce and abide by the AERIAL code. No dues or membership fees will be charged at present.

Officers: At present, the Ad-Hoc chair of the organization will be Frank Piechoski, until sufficient membership is available to populate a nine-member executive and operations board, which will design a leadership structure.

Activities: AERIAL will monitor the media and field complaints from clients and colleagues as follows:

Ethics – AERIAL will attempt to identify astrologers who act unethically, as described in various ethics codes such as those of the International Society for Astrological Research and the Faculty for Astrological Studies. Eventually, AERIAL will develop its own ethics code.

Responsibility – Astrologers should be held responsible for the results and truthfulness of their public statements, including the veracity of their advertising, accuracy of birth data, and the originality of their work.

Image – Astrologers should aspire to present a professional image to the world at large.

Accountability – Astrologers should be held accountable to their clients, colleagues and the astrology community. AERIAL can help by being a sort of "Better Business Bureau" for the profession of astrology.

Procedures: AERIAL will collect complaints and comments from clients, colleagues and the general public on activity by those identifying themselves as astrologers that contravenes AERIAL’s aims. At least two members of AERIAL will independently investigate the matter and report their findings to the executive board. If the astrologer is found to be at fault, a designated member of the executive board will contact the offending astrologer privately and ask that they rectify the situation. If the offending astrologer refuses to take action within a set period of time (as determined by the executive board) the astrologer’s action will be made public through AERIAL’s network of members.

Confidential Draft 09/18/01

(After a bit of discussion about the Mission Statement, within two months, the group apparently faded away as the message board simply discontinued.)
